Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST)
Troop 77 is helping to facilitate and host an Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST) training course this month (February). The purpose of the ILST course is to teach Scouts about leadership and leadership positions and how to reach success most effectively in any leadership role they now hold or may hold in the future. It is intended to help Scouts understand leadership positions within the Troop and their responsibilities and to equip them with organizational and leadership skills to fulfill those responsibilities. ILST is the first course in the series of leadership training offered to Scouts. Completion of ILST is a prerequisite for Scouts to participate in the more advanced leadership courses National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) and the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE). It is also required to participate in a Kodiak Challenge Trek. Upon completion, the Scouts will be officially trained and can wear the “Trained” patch on your uniform.
While ILST is somewhat geared toward younger Scouts or those holding positions of responsibility for the first time, you are welcome to complete the course again if you have a new position of responsibility and would like a refresher course to maximize your leadership opportunities in your new role.
ILST consists of three modules. Module 1 (ILST Introduction to Leadership Skills) and Module 2 (ILST Tools of Leadership) are offered online through my.Scouting.org. If your Scout does not already have their own my.Scouting.org account, then you will need to create a new one for them to take Modules 1 and 2. Instructions for setting up my.Scouting.org accounts are below as well as information on finding the classes for Modules 1 and 2 once you have a my.Scouting.org account created.
In addition to completing Modules 1 and 2 online, you will need to complete Module 3 via a Troop 77 Zoom call, which will last about an hour to an hour and a half. That Zoom call will be on Thursday, February 25th at 7:30P. You must complete Modules 1 and 2 online to attend Module 3 via Zoom. I have set up a Sign-up Genius (SUG) so that you can go in and register for the 2/25 Zoom meeting (Zoom instructions are in the Sign-up Genius) at:

REGISTRATION
If your Scout does not have a my.Scouting.org account already, to create one, go to my.scouting.org and click the CREATE ACCOUNT button and follow the instructions. You can find more detailed instructions at:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1o2Hxfj_Rz9_T44HoUQLPgp9NJBTEbzN4ql8tEfluP5Y/edit?usp=sharing
Once you have created your account, enter your username and password and click on the LOGIN button. The my.Scouting.org application will open, and you can click on the BSA LEARN CENTER graphic to open the Learn Center. For Scouts under 13, if when you try to click on the BSA LEARN CENTER it defaults to a parent’s account or just logs you out, then please wait 24-hours and try again. No one knows why this works, since some are available instantaneously, but it has worked in most cases.
When the Learn Center opens, click on “Explore Our Catalog'', and then in the search bar type ILST and hit enter to search. Four options should come up from your search, and you want to select the last one “Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST).” From there, you will get two course options, (1) “ILST Introduction'' and (2) “ILST Tools for Leadership''. Please select (“Visit”) for each of those two courses and “Enroll”. Once you are enrolled, you will be able to Start the courses.
Once finished with the courses (you must complete both of them to complete the Learning Plan), certificates for completion can be obtained in my.Scouting.org by clicking the Menu button, selecting My Training and then selecting the Completions tab. To obtain a course certificate, highlight a course and click on the icon to the far right – it will generate and download a certificate automatically to your default download folder.
Please email a copy of your completed certificate for the online Modules to Mr. Cole (ctcole0308@gmail.com), Ms. Booth (sbooth143@gmail.com) and Mr. Borja (michael.sean.borja@gmail.com) no later than Wednesday, February 24th at 7:30P.
