ABOUT THE event

NAVO is a new orienteering challenge for all Scouts BSA, Venturers, Sea Scouts, Explorers, and adults to enjoy this fall at Bert Adams Scout Camp! You can race for competition or just for fun! Maps offer Scout-level competitions with challenges for both beginners and advanced runners.

Note: Parents of Scouts who are interested in attending this event are responsoble for transporting Scouts to and from the event. By letting us know (button #2 above!) we will see how many Scouts and Adults are planning to attend. From there, we can perhaps improve the transportation logistcs for the event. In addition, after registration closes, those who register can determine if there is interest in the group to camp Friday and/or Saturday nights and if we have adults to cover that.

The below participant guide is also on the event registration page.

More about the event         (this info is from the registration website)

Each team gets a 5-color map for each participant 2 minutes before their race starting time. There are 30 flags/markers shown on the map and you must find all you can in 2 hours. Some are easy to find & some are hard. Each flag is worth 10, 20, 30, or 40 points, depending on how hard it is to find.

Plan your strategy to maximize your score!! The orange & white markers (known as controls) are identified with a number to let you know if you have found the correct location. To prove you found the control, you punch your score card with the corresponding pin punch provided at the control.

Orienteering is a team event, so be sure to register your teams of 3-8 Scouts. NO LESS THAN THREE PER TEAM AND NO MORE THAN EIGHT! Your team will need a compass and a watch or stopwatch so you’ll finish on time.

Participants should bring at least 2 full canteens or water bottles. There will be water spigots scattered around camp. The sections of camp we use for orienteering have some areas of thick vegetation and can be very rocky. Wear long pants and good trail shoes or boots.  Bug spray is highly suggested.

Cost
